Havana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, acknowledging the city's rich history and well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture.

Havana is divided into 15 municipalities and is governed by the Provincial Assembly of People's Power. The Assembly has a president and is made up of deputies who are elected by the people of Havana. The Assembly is responsible for governance in the city, including planning, transportation, and economic development. The municipal governments within Havana are responsible for local services such as local planning, schools, social services, local roads and refuse collection.

Havana's economy is diverse, with sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, and biotechnology contributing significantly. The city's economy has grown significantly over the years, with GDP contributions amounting to over 50% of the national total. Havana is also an important player in the country's foreign trade sector. The Port of Havana is crucial for Cuba's international trade, handling millions of tons of cargo every year.

The infrastructure in Havana is a blend of the old and new. The city has maintained its colonial architecture while incorporating modern facilities. The government of Havana has taken several steps to improve the city's infrastructure, including the improvement of the water supply system, the electrical grid, and the transportation system. Some of the main areas of focus include developing the road network, improving public transportation, and enhancing digital connectivity. However, the city faces challenges in terms of the aging infrastructure and the need for further improvements, particularly in terms of digital infrastructure and access to high-speed internet.
