The Mayor of Bucharest is an elected position and has executive powers, while the General Council of Bucharest, composed of 55 elected councillors, serves as the legislative body. The city is divided into six sectors, each governed by a local Mayor and Local Council. The General City Hall coordinates the public services and the implementation of strategies and metropolitan development plans. The local sector administrations are responsible for local services such as infrastructure maintenance, public cleanliness and community services.
